Lateral Drop From 2 On 1

I don’t know what it is about BJJ players, but they love jumping on your neck and try to guillotine you.

It’s no difference in the 2 on 1 grip AKA the Russian Tie. The cool thing is that if they decide to attack your neck, you can punish them with the Lateral drop.

It’s super easy to set up and finish, and if you get really good at it, you can even bate your partner to attack your neck.

Triangles Suck

Let’s be honest, getting caught in a triangle sucks. Apart from the obvious risk of being choked, you also have to worry about arm bars and wrist locks all while your head is being squashed.

The best way to avoid a triangle is to maintain good posture and be aware of where your arms are at all times. If one arm is between your opponents legs and your head is down you’re in danger.

But what should you do if you do get caught in a triangle?

I’m glad you asked. A while ago, I filmed an instructional for the warrior collective that shows the 5 levels triangle escape.

The series starts with a reactive escape when the triangle still loose and progresses through to your last ditch escape against a fully locked triangle.

I’m not going to guarantee you’ll never get triangled again but learning these defences will definitely improve your chance of escape. Check them out below.

Hide Your Legs

How many times have you been happily passing away only to have someone jump on one of your legs and try to rip it? My guess is probably a lot.

Since around 2015 and the rise of people like Eddie Cummings and the rest of the DDS, leg locking has become a staple of the modern game.

In fact, the leg lock game became so powerful, a lot of people got scared of passing. I even heard some crazy folks talking about passing being DEAD!

Obviously, passing isn’t dead, but it is essential you understand how to hide your legs or it might be the death of you.

Hiding your legs is actually pretty simple. All you need to do is make sure you knee and ankle stay on opposite sides of your partners leg (or hook).

This is something I discussed during the Cradle Masterclass, and as it’s much easier to understand visually then in writing and check out the clip below now:

Discover How To Create Insanely Tight Cross Face

Have you ever rolled with someone, who had a cross face so tight you thought you might pass out just from the pressure.

It’s a painfully interesting experience. And after a few minutes of being crushed by their shoulder pressure, you’re pretty much fine with letting them do whatever it is they want.

It’s safe to say, having a powerful cross face is a useful tool.

Thankfully, anyone can create an insanely tight cross face, if you follow a few simple steps. In the video, below Tom Barlow discusses how sets up the cross face for maximum pressure.

A Better Ezekiel

The Ezekiel choke fits perfectly into my game, but despite learning it over 15 years ago, I’ve NEVER been able to use it effectively.

Whenever I used to attempt the traditional Ezekiel, my fingers would just end up getting mangled against my partner’s defences instead in an effective choking position.

However, a short while ago, I discovered a different way to Ezekiel.

Dare I say it, a better way to Ezekiel (insert shocked face)

Only joking… but the first time I used it, I hit this version of the Ezekiel maybe fifteen times in a row against one of my brown belts.

I’m unsure if this is something I can up with myself or if I learned it many moons ago and forgot about it.

Either way, it works like gangbusters!

The beautiful thing about this version of the Ezekiel choke is the pressure is directly against the carotid arteries, so it comes on shockingly fast.

Check out the video below to see exactly how this choke works and how i set it up
