DALLAS NILES DEEP HALF GUARD MASTERCLASS

If you want to have an effective guard game, you need to create layers of guards. The more layers you have the harder it will become to pass your guard. One of the last layers of guard you can have is the Deep Half Guard.

Deep Half Guard is a great position to attack your opponent from or recover to a different position. It also leaves you in a great passing position after sweeps as you typically end up in past the knee line when you get to top.

On Monday 2nd February, we have Dallas Niles coming to Escapology BJJ to teach a masterclass on his Deep Half Guard system.

In case you’ve never heard of Dallas, he’s a Black Belt under Rafael Lovato Jr. For a long time, Dallas was one of the main instructors at Lovato’s school in Oklahoma (where he taught Escapology instructor Alek Ryan). Dallas has become widely regarded as an expert on several positions one of which is the deep half guard.

Take a look at the video below to check out Dallas sharing some of his Deep Half skills with another Deep Half legend Bernardo Faria:

The seminar will take place at 6:30 PM at Escapology BJJ in Cambridge, U.K. and is open to anyone of any level. The is cost FREE for unlimited Escapology Members, £20 for regular Escapology BJJ students and affiliates and £30 for people from other gyms.

The Crucifix Masterclass Part 1

The Crucifix is one of the best submission positions in Jiu Jitsu. The power of the position comes from your ability to isolate both your opponents arms and limit their movement, while still having one arm free to attack.

Check out this short sequence from one of Tom’s training sessions to see the level of control it gives :

The Crucifix is a bit of a cheat code for BJJ. You see very few people practice escaping the crucifix. As a result, once you trap them in the Crucifix, they struggle to get out and leave themselves open to many submission opportunities. Worst case scenario and they do wriggle free, you can either transition to the back or reenter the crucifx.

On Friday 3rd October, Escapology BJJ head instructor, Tom Barlow will be teaching the first part of his Crucifix Masterclass series. The focus of the first seminar will be on Crucifix control and simple submission opportunities. The masterclass will be taught in the Gi, but most of the content works just as well No Gi.

The masterclass will take place at 6 PM at Escapology BJJ in Cambridge, U.K. and is open to anyone of any level. The is cost £20 for Escapology BJJ students and affiliates and £30 for people from other gyms.

On top of the live seminar you will also get a recording of the masterclass and we’ll be going for a fireside chat after.

WRIST LOCK MASTERCLASS

There’s one submission above all others that’s looked down upon by a lot of BJJ players. In Portuguese, it’s known as Mão de Vaca (or cow paw). You probably know it as the wrist lock.

Wrist locks can be a brutal submission. Just take a look at this 13 second wrist lock submission of Jacare’s:

The wonderful thing about wrist locks is they’re one of the few submissions you can catch from almost anywhere. You can snag a wrist lock from the top, bottom, guard, passing, leg entanglements, and just about anywhere you can think of.

On top of that, because people often fear the wrist lock, you can use them as a way to set up other submissions or transitions. As a result, they’re an incredible tool to add to your BJJ arsenal.

On Sunday 6th July at 10 AM, Escapology BJJ head instructor, Chelsea Leah and wrist lock machine with be teaching a masterclass all about the deadly art of wrist locking.

Take a look at the video below to see Chelsea working her wrist lock magic (make sure you watch until the end for the aftermath of her wrist locking frenzy):

The seminar will take place at 10 AM at Escapology BJJ in Cambridge, U.K. and is open to anyone of any level. The is cost PWYW (Pay What You Want) for Escapology BJJ students and affiliates and £30 for people from other gyms.
