Tom Barlow

The S Mount // Masterclass

From Saturday 2nd March at 12:30pm, Tom Barlow will be teaching a masterclass all about the S Mount. The S Mount is one of the best attacking positions in Jiu Jitsu and gives you great control over your opponent while exposing numerous submissions options.

The 2 hour seminar will focus how to enter and control the S Mount and the highest percentage finishes and transitions once you’ve established the position.

Best of all you can “Pay What You Want” to attend the seminar. Only have £1? No worries? Want to invest £100? Awesome! It’s entirely up to you, just change the amount before you complete your registration. All entry fees will go towards the creation of Escapology 2.0.

Triangles Suck

Let’s be honest, getting caught in a triangle sucks. Apart from the obvious risk of being choked, you also have to worry about arm bars and wrist locks all while your head is being squashed.

The best way to avoid a triangle is to maintain good posture and be aware of where your arms are at all times. If one arm is between your opponents legs and your head is down you’re in danger.

But what should you do if you do get caught in a triangle?

I’m glad you asked. A while ago, I filmed an instructional for the warrior collective that shows the 5 levels triangle escape.

The series starts with a reactive escape when the triangle still loose and progresses through to your last ditch escape against a fully locked triangle.

I’m not going to guarantee you’ll never get triangled again but learning these defences will definitely improve your chance of escape. Check them out below.

Four Solo Drills To Improve Your Passing

Let’s be honest, passing an opponents guard can be hard. That’s particularly true against those super bendy people who seem to have arms for legs.

On top of having good technique, you want rock-solid balance, strong posture, and excellent mobility. While these attributes will develop naturally over time, you can accelerate your balance, posture, and mobility development through a little solo drilling.

To help you get started, I just uploaded a video that covers four of my favourite solo passing drills. These drills have been incredibly beneficial in my own training, hopefully, they can do the same for you. Check them out now below:

You can do these drills as a warm-up, cool down, or anytime you have a few minutes spare. However you choose to practice them, they will help you passing.

Fix Your Jiu Jitsu Claw

Ever wake up after a hard night’s training, and your hands have turned into gnarled claws that barely open?

Me too! The Jiu Jitsu claw is perfectly normal, but is can be a bit of a problem and rather painful.

Over the course of my BJJ career, I’ve tried tonnes of different methods to “release the claw”. Some worked well, and some didn’t.

However, a short while ago, our mobility coach Kai shared a couple of stretches that have been game changers. And I want to share them with you now…

If your mobility and flexibility is something you need to improve, Escapology BJJ offers regular mobility classes as part of your membership. To learn about the classes and book your next one CLICK HERE
