Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

The Neon Belly // Masterclass

If you ask any BJJ player, “What’s the most uncomfortable position to get caught in?” nine times out of ten, they’d say the Knee On Belly. That shouldn’t really be a surprise. After all, having someone drive their knee through your solar plexus always sucks.

Due to the positional dominance and discomfort of the knee on belly, your opponent will often give up submission opportunities just to relieve the pressure. That makes the Knee On Belly and fantastic addition to anyones BJJ game.

On Saturday the 25th May at 12:30pm, you’ll have the chance to learn them all…

During the Neon Belly masterclass, Escapology BJJ head instructor Tom Barlow will be teaching the key controls, transitions, and submissions, that will help you dominate from a Knee On Belly.

Best of all, you can “Pay What You Want” to attend the seminar. Want to invest £100? Awesome! Only have £1? No worries? It’s entirely up to you. Just change the amount before you complete your registration. All entry fees will go towards the creation of Escapology 2.0.

Contest Winning Concepts // Masterclass

From Saturday 13th April at 12:30pm, Tom Barlow will be teaching a masterclass covering key BJJ concepts that will accelerate your skills on the mat.

Rather then covering specific techniques, this masterclass will focus on the principles and strategies behind the techniques. From there, you can apply these concepts to any technique or your own game and dramatically increase your performance on the mats.

Best of all you can “Pay What You Want” to attend the seminar. Only have £1? No worries? Want to invest £100? Awesome! It’s entirely up to you, just change the amount before you complete your registration. All entry fees will go towards the creation of Escapology 2.0.

The S Mount // Masterclass

From Saturday 2nd March at 12:30pm, Tom Barlow will be teaching a masterclass all about the S Mount. The S Mount is one of the best attacking positions in Jiu Jitsu and gives you great control over your opponent while exposing numerous submissions options.

The 2 hour seminar will focus how to enter and control the S Mount and the highest percentage finishes and transitions once you’ve established the position.

Best of all you can “Pay What You Want” to attend the seminar. Only have £1? No worries? Want to invest £100? Awesome! It’s entirely up to you, just change the amount before you complete your registration. All entry fees will go towards the creation of Escapology 2.0.

Fix Your Jiu Jitsu Claw

Ever wake up after a hard night’s training, and your hands have turned into gnarled claws that barely open?

Me too! The Jiu Jitsu claw is perfectly normal, but is can be a bit of a problem and rather painful.

Over the course of my BJJ career, I’ve tried tonnes of different methods to “release the claw”. Some worked well, and some didn’t.

However, a short while ago, our mobility coach Kai shared a couple of stretches that have been game changers. And I want to share them with you now…

If your mobility and flexibility is something you need to improve, Escapology BJJ offers regular mobility classes as part of your membership. To learn about the classes and book your next one CLICK HERE

The Ladder Concept

Have you ever rolled with someone who seems to have a tractor-beam-like attachment to you? No matter what you do, you can’t keep their weight off you, and it feels like you’re slowly drowning in concrete.

Braulio basically does this to me every time we roll, and I can assure you it’s a terrible feeling. By feeling it so many times (and asking him), the concept behind how to become a human tractor beam is pretty simple and can be used by anyone.

I call it the Ladder concept and want to share it with you now.

A lot of people think about passing (or any technique) as a single technique, but it’s not. A better way to think about passing is that you have to win a series of small battles.

Each battle is a rung on the ladder that finally gets you to your goal.

If your opponent prevents you from climbing to the next rung of the ladder, you stay there until you break through their defences. And if they break from one of your attacks, you only want to fall one rung of the ladder rather than to the bottom.

To illustrate the ladder concept, I want to share a short clip from the Cradle Masterclass where I talked about this concept. Check out the video below to watch it now:
