Escapology BJJ

Hide Your Legs

How many times have you been happily passing away only to have someone jump on one of your legs and try to rip it? My guess is probably a lot.

Since around 2015 and the rise of people like Eddie Cummings and the rest of the DDS, leg locking has become a staple of the modern game.

In fact, the leg lock game became so powerful, a lot of people got scared of passing. I even heard some crazy folks talking about passing being DEAD!

Obviously, passing isn’t dead, but it is essential you understand how to hide your legs or it might be the death of you.

Hiding your legs is actually pretty simple. All you need to do is make sure you knee and ankle stay on opposite sides of your partners leg (or hook).

Super Seminar Series vol.2

From Tuesday 1st February to Wednesday 2nd February 2023, we have two of the worlds best BJJ practitioners and instructors coming to Escapology BJJ in Cambridge to teach seminars.

Here’s a brief rundown of the instructors and when they’ll be teaching.

Anna Rodrigues Super Seminar vol.2

Anna Rodrigues, 1st February 2023

Anna Rodrigues (aka A.Rod) is one of the best female black belt competitors currently active on the tournament circuit.

Despite only being 24 years old, Anna has already won the Worlds, Europeans, and Pan Ams multiple times and is on track to become one of the greatest competitors of all time.

Anna’s seminar will take place on Wednesday 1st February 2023 at 6:30 PM.


Isaque Bahiense Super Seminar vol.2

Isaque Bahiense, 2nd February 2023

Isaque Bahiense is a world champion, European champion, Pan Am champion and has a staggering 86% win rate including victories over competitors like Mica Galvao, Roberto Jimenez, and Tommy Langaker.

Along with being a world champion competitor, Isaque is fast becoming considered one of the top coaches in Jiu Jitsu through the success of his team, Dream Art Jiu Jitsu.

The seminar will take place on Thursday 2nd February 2023 at 6:30 PM.

Escapology BJJ Christmas Party 2022

Super Seminar Series vol.1

From Tuesday 29th November to Thursday 8th December 2022, we have five of the Europe’s best instructors coming to Escapology BJJ in Cambridge to teach seminars.

Here’s a brief rundown of the instructors and when they’ll be teaching.

Tommy Langaker Seminar at Escapology BJJ

Tommy Langaker, 29th November

Having won Europeans, Abu Dhabi Pro and countless other BJJ competitions, Tommy is Europe’s most successful and active competitors. However, unlike many successful athletes Tommy’s game is incredibly fast paced and always highly entertaining to watch.

Tommy will be covering the Matrix back attack system and key master guard.


Chelsea Leah Seminar at Escapology BJJ

Chelsea Leah, 1st December

Chelsea is one of the head coaches at Escapology BJJ. A black belt under Andre Galvao and medalist at at every major competition as a black belt, Chelsea has had an incredibly successful BJJ career and despite being a full-time coach and mum, still competes at the highest level.

Chelsea will be teaching part of her No Gi game


Dan Strauss Seminar at Escapology BJJ

Dan Strauss, 5th December

Dan AKA the Raspberry Ape almost needs no introduction. Despite only just turning 30, Dan has been on the top of the UK grappling scene since the early 2000’s and has competed all over the globe in competitions like the ADCC, Polaris, and Quintet.

Dan will be teaching his patent guillotines.


Braulio Estima Seminar at Escapology BJJ

Braulio Estima, 7th December

Braulio is a legend in the BJJ community. He is a four time BJJ world champion, ADCC weight and absolute champion, and has countless other accolades to his name.

Braulio is also considered by many to be one of the top instructors in the world and his seminars always jam packed with amazing technique and good times. Braulio will be covering his devastating leg lock game.

Tom Barlow, 8th December

The final seminar in the series will be Tom Barlow. Along with Chelsea, Tom is one of the head instructors of Escapology BJJ. On top of that, Tom has won No Gi worlds 3 times, competed in the ADCC finals, represented the UK in the world grappling games and is one of the most successful competitors to come from the U.K.

Tom will be sharing part of his highly technical BJJ game.

Beginner’s BJJ Curriculum Sample Drill: RDLR Side To Side

There are numerous benefits to using drills to develop technique. Drills make it easier for you to learn and remember a technique, they’re a great way to warm the body up, and can give you a great sport specific workout.

For these reasons, we included a number of drills in each part of the Beginner’s BJJ Curriculum, with each drill reinforcing a technique or concept.

This is a sample drill taken from the Beginner’s Curriculum and covers drill which helps improve guard retention and passing posture. This drill is used in several places in the syllabus which helps build familiarity with the technique. Check our the Reverse De La Riva Side To Side Drill below:
